A man in Teshie-Nungua, a community in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region, was injured when a 27-year-old palm tree crashed onto his bed, according to a report by Modern Ghana published on September 2, 2026.
The incident occurred when the long-standing tree suddenly gave way, striking the man as he was in bed. The report, titled “The 27-Year-Old Palm Tree, a Bolt from the Bed, and the Costly Sting of Procrastination,” suggests that the tree’s fall was not a sudden act of nature but the result of years of neglected maintenance.
Modern Ghana’s account frames the event as a cautionary tale about delay. The tree had reportedly stood for nearly three decades, and its removal or trimming had apparently been put off repeatedly. That inaction, the publication implies, turned a foreseeable risk into a painful reality.
